On January 7, 2007, the Door County Amateur Radio Club was fifty seven years old. However, there was a radio club in Door County before that, 84 years ago, in
1923, and at least one member is still living, Granted, this club was a group of people of whom some were interested in building radios, and some were interested in communicating by radio, but everybody was an amateur in radio then. Only a few companies were building radio equipment; in fact, most radio amateur
transmitting equipment was "home brewed" up until the end of World War II.
A radio club was officially organized among 19 radio amateurs and fans at the Sturgeon Bay High School according to the January 19,1923, issue of the Door County News.

"Dues for the Door County Amateur Radio Club are presently only $10.00 per year.
As you know, it is very expensive to build and maintain repeater systems.
Your dues (and any generous donation) is gratefully accepted."
